Obituary for Vernon C. Swearengin
Vernon C. Swearengin 83, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 from complications after a tractor accident on his farm in July. He was born in Ava, Missouri on April 28, 1934 to Lloyd and Bydge (Wright) Swearengin.
Vernon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a self-employed businessman owning Vernon Swearengin Trucking for over 50 years and was a farmer. He was passionate about work but occasionally enjoyed western’s, especially anything with John Wayne. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his dog Sassy dearly.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Veronica Moore; sister, JoAnn Schmidt and former spouse, Trudie Swearengin.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Swearengin; brother, Jerry Swearengin; two children, Vernon Robert Swearengin, and Joanna Hayes (Bruce); six grand children, Jeremy Moore (Julie), Robert Alan Swearengin (Stephanie), Aleah Hayes, Jade Hayes, and Veronica K. Schultz; five great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a celebration of life starting at 2:00 p.m. at Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel (5234 W. State Highway EE Springfield, MO 65802). A burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
